Invest in Skills is a dynamic programme of investment in critical infrastructure for vocational skills training and higher education (HE) for Crawley – designed to meet employer and learner needs.

A Construction Hub will be integrated into the Sussex and Surrey Institute of Technology on the Crawley College campus, enabling the development of new facilities and equipment to accommodate the design and delivery of new training programmes in construction, professional services and ICT/digital. This will empower Crawley’s workforce and boost local businesses by helping them to recruit and upskill local people with the required skills.

This project comprises of three delivery strands:

  1. Green construction skills – the establishment of a Construction Hub equipped with green construction training facilities and equipment, including a decarbonisation academy

  2. New further education (FE) curriculum and infrastructure – enabling Level 2 and 3 training pathways for Crawley residents to access employment in the construction, professional services and ICT/Digital sectors

  3. Expand HE/university level training and establish progression pathways at Level 4 and above – supporting the new Institute of Technology through the purchase of specialist equipment to support priority sectors

This infrastructure will be built at Crawley College’s site on College Road in the centre of Crawley. The project aims to create new vocational FE and HE training programmes to:

  • Help employers recruit locally and upskill/retain existing workforce
  • Equip Crawley’s resident workforce with key skills and to gain associated qualifications at Levels 2, 3, 4 and above
  •  Support and enable social mobility
