The Cultural Quarter project has two strands – the Pop-Up Culture programme and the creation of a Cultural Hub.

The Pop-Up Culture programme has been running since March 2023, when producer Paul Ackerley was appointed. Read more about Paul's appointment on Crawley Borough Council's website.

Regular events are being held to attract people into the town centre, with the impact being evaluated. Events are listed on the Pop-Up Culture Facebook page.

The work on feasibility studies, site delivery plans and a masterplan for the Cultural Hub in the town centre runs until March 2026.

The Cultural Quarter project will deliver:

  • major footfall from Crawley and beyond to attend events
  • new jobs in the cultural and creative industries
  • new business growth in the cultural and creative industries
  • reduced vacancy rates of empty retail premises in the short term and potentially long-term
  • more people living, working and studying in the town by improving the reputation of Crawley as a creative place
  • significant new cultural amenities and infrastructure as key assets for a vibrant town centre neighbourhood comprising high-quality living accommodation
  • improved accessibility and attractiveness of key routes
  • an improved perception of Crawley by residents, visitors and businesses
