Crawley is home to Gatwick Airport - a national infrastructure asset delivering £5.3bn contribution to GDP in the UK, currently handling over 46 million passengers a year. The airport makes a significant employment contribution to the local economy – providing 24,000 jobs directly on the Gatwick site across 250 different companies. The airport also supports a further 12,000 jobs directly and indirectly in the local area, with a large proportion of employees drawn from Crawley.
Providing a strong location advantage to businesses locally, serving as a vital link to international business opportunities, connecting to over 228 destinations across the world, including an extensive network of over 60 long haul destinations, placing the airport in the top 5 in Europe for long haul. Gatwick also has the largest rail catchment of any UK airport, with 15 million people able to access Gatwick by rail within 60 minutes across 129 connections. With new trains, investment and technology, capacity on rail services is set to double by 2020 and nearly treble by 2035.
