Delivery of the Crawley Growth Programme is progressing with another key project given the green light by Crawley Borough Council's Planning Committee on Monday 29 January.

The plans, which were developed following extensive public consultation earlier this year, will see the high quality improvements recently made in Queens Square extended along Queensway, The Pavement and Kingsgate.

It has been agreed that work will not begin on site until early 2019, in order to keep disruption to businesses during the important Christmas trading period to an absolute minimum. A detailed schedule of works will be developed and shared with businesses over the coming months.

Focuses for the £2.2 million scheme include:

  • Interconnected with Queens Square
  • Links with Memorial Gardens and Queensway
  • Flat, accessible and attractive space
  • Lighting for safety and aesthetics
  • Seating
  • Cycle racks
  • More litter bins
  • Disabled parking bays
  • Better vehicular access into Parkside Car Park
  • The area is also designed as a location for a future market.

Improvements to the area are hoped to act as a further catalyst for wider regeneration and investment. A tender process to find development partners will begin in the coming months. The Crawley Growth Programme is an exciting partnership that will deliver regeneration in Crawley.

These plans are another positive step for Town Centre regeneration and deliver a milestone in our administration’s objectives, proving our continued commitment to improving the area. I would like to thank all those who commented on the initial proposals during consultation; it helps us to properly consider the detailed plans which were agreed by the Planning Committee this week.
